Easylawn work with the BBC

During 2004, a team from Easylawn Turf Supplies were contracted to the BBC to install an Environmat roof on a 'grandad' flat. The programme we were involved with was called "Too Close For Comfort", a home improvement show hosted by Anna Raeburn and John Weir. The edition involving Easylawn Turf Supplies featured three generations of one family living together and their desire for a little more personal space.

This is Jamie discussing the use of Enviromat with "grandad" and the BBC film crew. Now the events as they unfold...

The first piece is in position. Simply place the water-proof sheeting on the base, followed by the water retention mat, then lay the enviromat in position.

Enviromat is very similar to the green roofing materials used in continental Europe. It consists of a mixture of low growing, flowering sedum plants which have been propagated onto a patented matting to give instant and colourful cover to a wide range of surfaces.

Each piece of Enviromat has an extra flap of geo-textile matting which is unfolded so that it covers the adjacent areas. The next piece is laid onto this flap as this helps to hold the Enviromat in place.

Boards are placed on top of the Enviromat for access over the area. This will distribute the body weight and ensure that the plants are not damaged underfoot.

The Enviromat is in place and will begin to settle down and knit together. Enviromat flowers from early spring until autumn.

The outcome was a complete success with Grandad "over the moon" with his new accommodation, and the Enviromat roofing was certainly eye catching. In fact, in the words of Anna Raeburn looking around the neighbourhood, "his roof would be the first of many."
